Cherrywood Educate Together National School 2022-2025

From This Root applies research on place, placemaking, and design cultures to the newly built town of Cherrywood. Emma carried out research workshops with the community before delivering a four-week school residency with mainstream and neurodiverse classes aged 4–8, using drawing, sculpture, and play to invite children to engage with their new neighbourhood.

The commission is now complete. The final artwork is a sculptural furniture piece permanently installed in the school library - a functional, inhabitable work that blurs the boundaries between furniture, sculpture, and play space. It was fabricated in direct response to the artworks made by the children during the residency, making the community genuinely the authors of the piece.
