St. James’s, MISA, Artist-in-Residence 2023-2025
Emma was Artist-in-Residence of MISA, St. James’s Hospital from October 2023 - January 2025.
She worked first across three acute wards as a patient-led arts and health educator, co-creating artwork and projects with older adults and staff and carrying out daily evaluations to record outcomes and happenings from each workshop.
Planned and delivered varied workshops introducing patients to mark making, sculpture and art engagement through themes of place, ritual and the natural world. Managed art materials supply and stock, designed communications materials and maintained relationships with healthcare practitioners and the wider hospital community.
In the second half of the residency we focussed in on bringing clay into the hospital, working with staff to promote wellbeing on wards and in free-time, and delivered more in-depth projects.
Projects included:
“Claiming Creativity” Cancer Survivorship Staff & Outpatients, Parkinson’s Outpatients and Older Adults in the community
“Where we Belong” Art Curation project with staff nurses and HCAs on an acute ward
“Who I Am” Introductory art workshops with inpatients on three acute wards
